Behind the Glass: Hudson Yards Project Tower C
W&W Glass is proud to be a part of the upcoming Hudson Yards Redevelopment Project in New York City! Dubbed the largest construction project of its kind, the Hudson Yards project will include over 16 skyscrapers and 12,700,000 sqft of office, residential and retail space stretched across twenty-eight acres on the Far West Side.
Owned by Related Companies and designed by KPF, the entire Hudson Yards Project is a technical feat that will involve constructing a whole “neighborhood from scratch” on top of an active rail yard.
Work on the first phase, the East side of the re-zoned district, already broke ground on December 4, 2012 to begin construction on the first tower. Tower C, or 10 Hudson Yards, is going to be a 52 story office building with 1,700,000 sqft of floor space, anchored by Coach, Inc. and will also be home to L’Oreal USA and SAP. There will be access to Hudson Yards from the High Line, tying the recently repurposed, iconic elevated railway park together with the hottest new commercial office and retail area in the city that will truly redefine and reshape Midtown Manhattan from the ground up.
Our work at 10 Hudson Yards will include creating an 82 foot tall lobby Pilkington PlanarTM cable wall facade, custom lobby storefront, a trapezoidal 207 foot tall “Coach Atrium” Pilkington PlanarTM cable wall spanning from floors 6 to 21, and interior atrium glass inside the Coach area. W&W Glass/Pilkington were chosen for this project because of our engineering, experience and confidence that only a full service, manufacturer and installer of point supported structural glazing for over 40 years can provide. In addition, our work on large-scale cable wall facade projects in New York City such as AOL Time Warner, Bank of America Tower and the planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History have shown that we’ve demonstrated the expertise to manage and excel on similar projects in the past.
We will be giving consistent updates on our work at 10 Hudson Yards right up until the projected completion date in May 2016. Look forward to more information on the project in the upcoming months, including detailed specifications and progress photos on the multiple facades we’re installing on the project. Keep an eye on our blog and social media channels!
