The project known as the Magic Johnson Theatre at 125th Street in New York City is the centerpiece of a major urban renewal project underway in the city's historic Harlem area. The complete exterior envelope, consisting of a Pilkington Planar system unitized curtain wall and metal panel systems, was furnished and installed by W&W. The building is distinguished by an upper exterior enclosure of the Pilkington Planar glass mullion system covering an area of over 17,000 square feet. The walls are 30 feet high and are glazed with Pilkington OptiwhiteTM low iron glass, tempered, and heat soaked glass (12mm for the facade, and 15mm for the fins.) The result is a uniquely transparent wall system. The facade is fully suspended from the structure above, allowing for the narrowest possible fin depth. The facade is attached to the fins by 316-grade stainless steel, 905 type Pilkington Planar
fittings. |
